Decisions ... Decisions ... Decisions! Which chess club should I go to? I will be checking out each of the clubs on Friday to see which one is right for me. I will report back next week.

Do you know which chess club is the better club in Memphis? I just moved to Memphis and noticed there were four clubs in Memphis. Do they each have different purposes? Any advice you can give would be awesome.

Hi chess4all and Chess Lover, thanks for stopping by.

@Chess Lover, there are a few more maybe, if you want to include the coffee shops, and restaurants in the area. If you haven't tried them you may want to take a look- see for the best fit for you and then let me know what you like. I personally know most of, if not all of, the chess groups in the Memphis area, there are some that definately focus on fun, fair, and free events. In todays economy free is important for just pulling up a chair and having a lively game. If so you most likely will like the Tropical Smoothie - Friday Knights Chess club, no membership fees to support the facilities. And, there are good relations with some of the top GM's in the US, currently playing today, through a group there with Shelby County Chess, and Mid South Chess camps.

Thanks again for stopping by.

Thank you for helping me. I noticed also there were two chess camps coming up the same week in Memphis. What's up with that? It is a no-brainer for me which I will be going to. I have heard so much about Alex Stripunsky and Robert Hess that I don't want to miss any camp with them. I have heard about the instructors in the other camps and have heard that their reputations are not very nice.

I only made it to two clubs on Friday. But, I am convinced those two clubs are the best for what I am looking for. I had such an awesome experience at the Shelby County Chess Club and the University of Memphis Chess Club that I will be returning there. They treated me with respect and dignity. I heard the people at the Memphis Chess Club are not very nice.
