Congratulations to Parker Zhao and with ties to Memphis!
Is this the one?
Congratulations to one of the country's newest International Masters who has Memphis ties.
IM -elect Parker Zhao earned his 3rd IM norn in the highly competitive Open section of the Manhattan Open Chess Tournament held recently in NYC.
Parker is a student of GM Alex Stripunsky,
a favorite coach who considers Memphis his second home,
and also has a close friend in IM Jake Kleiman of Memphis.
"This was Parker's third IM norm in fact, and after his results from the tournament have been rated, his rating should climb past the 2400 FIDE threshold for IMs elect. His last-round game , a victory over IM Greg Shahade, featured a "surprise" Queen sacrifice by White on move 19."
